In this podcast I am going to read the final four sonnets from my collection, ‘Not the Sonnets’, which will be published later this year.
Given Shakespeare’s own sonnets are the major influence behind my collection, it seemed only right and proper to conclude it with more than a nod to the Bard. In each of these four poems I have adopted a somewhat slanted view of proceedings in four of the plays as seen by one of the major characters. They are, in order: the Friar, from Romeo & Juliet; Gloucester, in King Lear; Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream; and Macbeth in Macbeth.
